remarkably bright creatures by: shelby van pelt
I was recommended this book by my friend Joni. Joni is constantly reading, it annoys the shit out of me. She said this book was one of her favorites from last year, and I trust Joni. Remarkably Bright Creatures weaves themes of loss, heartbreak, friendship, and hope into a book that is easy to read and leaves you happier for the experience. The three main characters of the book find themselves intertwined in ways you wouldn’t think imaginable. I fell in love with each for different reasons, my favorite being Marcellus, a giant Octopus. I became invested in each of their well being, genuinely hoping for answers for all of them. I really liked the way the author managed to someone make even an Octopus seem like a friend of mine. Even though there is tragedy in the book, you aren’t left feeling completely devastated. There is a sense of hope throughout each chapter of this book. Moving along at an even pace, I was never bored. The author does a good job at keeping the reader engaged throughout the book. I’ve recommended this book to several of my friends and the ones who have read it all reported back that they were happy to have read it and really enjoyed it.
